一本陪伴孩子一起認識自己的的繪本
故事一開始就有巨石擋住去路，但有個聲音告訴我們：「擋在生命中的大石頭，是讓人攀爬的！」 就像孩子在成長中遇到的各種挑戰，但只要願意往上爬、往前走，就能越過阻礙，找到屬於自己的位置。

天生我「石」必有用
有的大、有的小；有的光滑、有的粗糙。
作者透過一顆顆不同的石頭，讓孩子看到：沒有哪顆石頭是「多餘的」，每一顆都有它剛剛好的位置。
就像我們每個人，也都有自己特別的樣子和發光的地方。

靜靜不動，也是一種力量
山裡的大石頭看起來什麼也沒做，其實它在默默支撐整座山、保護著土地。
這提醒孩子：有時候不需要喧鬧或表現，只要安靜、穩定地存在，就已經很重要。

世界上沒有兩顆一模一樣的石頭
這就像孩子們之間的差異——每個人都有自己獨特的個性與愛好。
當孩子學會欣賞自己的樣子，也會更懂得尊重與欣賞別人。

找到屬於自己的「剛剛好」
當那顆「剛剛好放在手心裡的石頭」出現時，孩子會感受到一種安定與滿足。 它象徵找到讓自己安心的地方、喜歡的事情，或是能讓心變得平靜的那份小小幸福。 這本書雖以簡單的圖文呈現，卻蘊含老莊式的哲理——「道法自然」與「無用之用」。
在變動不安的時代，這本書彷彿是海上航行船隻的壓艙石，在狂風巨浪之中，安頓大人與小孩的定心丸！ ●

代表這本書，以及所有參與它誕生的人，我要您致上誠摯的感謝。謝謝你們給予這份殊榮，也謝謝你們再次肯定了：那些看似微小的故事也能蘊藏巨大的力量。更重要的是，這份來自遠方的肯定，再次提醒了我——對世界上任何地方的孩子（以及細心的成人）來說，「很難忽略一顆石頭」，也很難不向每一顆石頭打聲招呼！

無論我們住在哪裡，都同樣站在、共享著這顆最大的岩石——我們藍綠色的星球。而我們挑選石頭、凝望石頭的方式，能跨越彼此的差異與距離，把我們彼此連結起來，就像打開同一本書，走進相同的頁面時一樣。

我想，成長過程中，我幾乎沒有錯過任何一顆石頭——沒有忽視它們、沒有錯過攀上它們（如果它們適合攀爬），也沒有停止欣賞它們。有許多石頭甚至被我放進口袋裡。直到現在，我仍舊會向遇到的每顆石頭問好，重新發現每一顆石頭可能蘊藏的祕密——有些石頭對我們格外特別，而原因也許只有我們自己才知道。願我們都能繼續為此停下腳步。

On behalf of this book and all who have had a part in making it, thank you for this honor bestowed on it. Thank you, too, for the confirmation that stories that might look small can also be large ones. But even more, this recognition from faraway is a reminder I feel deeply that, for children anywhere (and attentive grown-ups, too), “it’s hard to ignore a rock” or to not say hello to each!

Wherever we live on this biggest, biggest rock--our blue and green planet we all stand on and share--the same ways we choose a rock and ponder rocks reach across our other differences and distance and join us to each other, just as opening the same book, then entering those pages, does too.

I think that growing up I left no rock unnoticed, unclimbed (if of the climbable kind), or unappreciated. Many went into my pockets. And I’m still saying hi to those I meet, renewing the discovery any rock may hold--and some especially, even if sometimes for reasons each of us knows only in ourselves. May we all keep pausing for that.

To the members of the Jury for the Openbook prize, I'd like to express my gratitude and heartfelt thanks for selecting When you find the right Rock as the winner. To know that this special book is resonating with audiences all around the world is truly wonderful, and reminds me how lucky I was to first receive this text from Mary Lyn Ray and Chronicle Books a few years ago.

I fell in love with this ode to rocks, it spoke to the beauty of the natural world and to the fascination of both children and adults with rocks of all kinds. It spoke to our shared humanity, and it was the greatest pleasure to illustrate. Finding the right pattern for each rock was just as fun as finding the perfect rock on a beach.
